Magpie Monday on Wednesday: Someone’s in the Kitchen….

Let’s stuff ourselves full today, shall we? You know, for Liberty.

HELPFUL TIPS.

Typically, people use a little citric acid (lemon juice, sometimes lime, I suppose) to keep fruit from browning, like apples, pears, or avocados (or even potatoes). America’s Test Kitchen suggests, instead of citric acid, a honey-water bath (2 tbsp honey to 1 cup water). Here’s a video explaining the tip and the science:

♦ 食品

After reading the USA Today article The 5 Craziest McDonald’s Pies, I have come to realize that American McDonald’s have been cheating us of the variety of pies they offer around the world. Read this excerpt, look at the picture, and weep with me:

One of the more interesting McDonald’s menu items, period, is the potato-bacon pie, only available in Asian markets, and Japan in particular. This decidedly savory offering suspends chunks of bacon inside a filling of mashed potatoes, encased in a deep-fried shell.

I want to go to there.

Japanese rice paddy art makes crop circles look lame. Click through to see more pictures (there’s even one of Napoleon)—these are crazy!

Behold: Japanese Foaming Toilet Candy (warning: the video starts slow with what might be an excruciating attention to detail, but seeing the toilet in action is fun and, yeah, looks kind of gross–but it tastes like soda!):

PUT THIS IN MY MOUTH

and then take me to the hospital for some defibrillation.
